SC Stays Orders of HC In Vivekananda Reddy's Murder Case

The former Kadapa MP Vivekananda Reddy was alleged to have been murdered by Gangi Reddy in March 2019

The Telangana High Court had granted conditional bail to T Gangi Reddy who was the chief accused in the murder of YS Vivekananda Reddy. The Supreme Court bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and PS Narasimha  on Friday has stayed the abovementioned order that had granted him bail.

They have decided to list the same on 14 July after the vacations. The Court was hearing pleas that had challenged the order which cancelled the bail. It again ordered the trial court to release him on conditional bail after two months. The responses of Gangi Reddy and the CBI has been sought in this regard.The CBI stated that the High Court had encroached upon the powers of the Supreme Court under Article 142 of the Constitution. It had commented on the kind of state investigation and therefore the counter of the CBI states that the High Court's order sets a bad precedent.

Suneetha Reddy, wife of the deceased, was being represented by Senior Counsel Siddharth Luthra. The former Kadapa MP Vivekananda Reddy was alleged to have been murdered by Gangi Reddy in March 2019. The case was transferred to the CBI in 2020 and later the Supreme Court transferred the trial in the murder case to a Special CBI Court in Hyderabad. The Supreme Court had referred the case back to High Court to be considered on fresh grounds.
