The Supreme Court bench comprising Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagarathna on Friday dismissed a petition that sought to protect the research work from plagiarism by framing certain guidelines about the issue. The bench was not satisfied by the submissions made by the petitioner and proceeded to dismiss it.

The petitioner tried to put forth the reason for the petition and explained that if a scholar submits a research about a topic to the teacher, the said teacher has the liberty to change the name of the scholar who submits the said report and put their own name in it’s place and no one would thereafter believe the person who submitted the research.

The bench however stood unsatisfied and said that there is no clarity in the petition. They bench asked where do you get all these ideas and what are the grounds.

The writ petition was accordingly dismissed.
