OpIndia website's CEO Rahul Roushan and its Editor Nupiur Sharma have approached the Madras High Court in a plea to quash the FIR against them by the Tamil Nadu Police. An IT Wing Member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party had complained against the website following a false news of a migrant worker from Bihar being beaten in Tamil Nadu. The petition was listed on May 24 before the vacation bench of Justice Sathi Kumar Sukumara Kurup. It directed that the matter maybe lised before a regular bench after the reopening of the Court.

The relief has thus been refused and observed that the accused had an alternative remedy of approaching the HC under Section 482 of the CrPC. The Court has thus allowed them to avail th judical remedies. Suryaprakash, the IT Wing member had mentioned that the fake news could create riot or conflict and distrust among the migrat workers and therefore it could affect the public peace and harmony.
