No Consensus On Establishing NJIAI, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju Tells Parliament

In March, 2022, Mr. Rijiju had said in the Lok Sabha that the Ministry was in receipt of a plan from the Chief Justice of India for establishing National Judicial Infrastructure Authority of India (NJIAI).

On August 5, Union Minister of Law & Justice, Kiren Rijiju told the Lok Sabha that no consensus yet on the setting up of a National Judicial Infrastructure Authority of India, envisioned by the Chief Justice of India NV Ramana.

In March, 2022, Mr. Rijiju had said in the Lok Sabha that the Ministry was in receipt of a plan from the Chief Justice of India for establishing National Judicial Infrastructure Authority of India (NJAI).

The plan was aimed arrangement of adequate infrastructure for courts. According to the proposed scheme, the NJAI was supposed to perform as a Central institution in prescribing the strategy for planning, creation, development, maintenance and management of functional infrastructure for the judicial system in India.

It was proposed to have a Governing Body with the Chief Justice of India as Patron-in-Chief. The Law Minister had further told that the proposed plan for NJAI had been submitted to the various State Government/UTs, as they were a prominent stakeholder.

On Friday, Rijiju informed the House while responding to questions posed by Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi, MP from Hyderabad. He went on to say that the proposal was also a part of the discussion held at the Conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices and after deliberations there was no unanimity.
