Many congratulations on winning the BW Legal World 30 under 30. How did you feel when you found out you were selected, and what was your experience like interacting with the esteemed jury and attending the event?

Winning the BW Legal World 30 under 30 award was an incredibly gratifying and surreal moment for me. It was an honor to be recognized among such a talented group of individuals who are making a significant impact in the legal field. Interacting with the esteemed jury was an enlightening experience. Their expertise and insights provided invaluable knowledge and inspiration. Attending the event was a memorable occasion, surrounded by accomplished professionals and having the opportunity to network and exchange ideas with like-minded individuals. It was truly a remarkable experience that further motivated me to continue striving for excellence in my career.

Can you share your journey in the field of law? When did you realize that law was your true calling in life?

My journey in the field of law began during my time in law school. I was captivated by the intricacies of the legal system and its profound impact on society. It was during this period that I discovered my passion for understanding complex legal issues and presenting persuasive arguments.

After completing my legal studies, I joined a prestigious law firm where I worked on diverse and challenging cases related to commercial litigation and dispute resolution. This experience allowed me to refine my skills and gain a deep understanding of the legal landscape. However, I also recognized that traditional law firms often lacked innovation and client-centric approaches.

Motivated by a desire to create a more progressive and solution-oriented legal environment, I established DC Law Offices. Our firm combines technology with the practice of law, aiming to provide a unique ecosystem that prioritizes client satisfaction and efficiency. I am driven by a commitment to make a positive impact on the lives of my clients and society as a whole. Witnessing the positive outcomes and the difference my work makes for clients has been the most rewarding aspect of my career thus far.

Who has been your guiding mentor as you embarked on your legal career, and what valuable lessons did you learn from them during your early days?

I believe inspiration should be much more relatable and hence I seek guidance and mentorship from my family and my friends in every different part of my life. The same allows you to have a pragmatic approach to life.

Also, briefing Senior Counsels had a profound impact on me. Their unique approach to complex legal problems has been truly enlightening. Observing their expertise and learning from their experiences has taught me the importance of thoroughness, resilience, and the ability to adapt to ever-changing legal landscapes. Above all as litigator you became more of a self-mentor and the same helps to navigate my professional journey.

How did you decide on your area of specialization when seeking employment? To what extent do you believe internships contribute to shaping the career paths of young lawyers?

When I was exploring employment opportunities, I knew I wanted to pursue a career as a litigator. It was through my internships that I gained exposure to different practice areas and discovered my affinity for litigation. Internships serve as a crucial stepping stone for young lawyers, offering them the chance to explore various fields and identify their interests and strengths. Additionally, internships provide networking opportunities, allowing aspiring lawyers to connect with professionals who can guide and support them in carving their career paths. The hands-on experience gained through internships is invaluable in shaping the trajectory of a young lawyer's career.

Do you believe pursuing higher degrees, such as an LL.M., can enhance a lawyer's skill set? When do you think is the appropriate time for a lawyer who has recently entered the profession to pursue such a degree?

Absolutely, pursuing higher degrees like an LL.M. can significantly enhance a lawyer's skill set. An LL.M. offers specialized knowledge and expertise in a specific area of law, allowing lawyers to deepen their understanding and broaden their horizons. However, the appropriate timing for pursuing an LL.M. depends on an individual's goals and aspirations. For those interested in academia or specialized practice areas, pursuing an LL.M. early in their career might be beneficial. Conversely, gaining practical experience before pursuing an LL.M. can provide a strong foundation to apply theoretical knowledge effectively. It is essential for each lawyer to assess their career path and determine when the timing aligns best with their long-term goals.

With the recent buzz surrounding AI and technology, particularly in the legal field, do you think these advancements will eventually surpass the skills of human lawyers, given the rise of ChatGPT and other AI software?

While AI and technology have undoubtedly made significant strides, I firmly believe that they will not surpass the skills of human lawyers. AI and technology can undoubtedly aid lawyers in conducting research and document review more efficiently. However, the skills that make a lawyer truly invaluable, such as legal analysis, critical thinking, strategic planning, and advocacy, are inherently human qualities that cannot be replicated by machines. Furthermore, the practice of law often delves into subjective and nuanced territories where interpretation, empathy, and ethical considerations come into play. AI and technology serve as tools to enhance a lawyer’s efficiency and effectiveness, much like calculators did for mathematicians. They can streamline certain tasks, but they cannot replace the irreplaceable skills and judgment of a competent lawyer.

Besides your legal career, what are your hobbies and interests?

When I’m not immersed in my legal work, I enjoy indulging in sports. Engaging in physical activities helps me maintain a healthy work-life balance and provides a necessary outlet for stress relief. Cricket is a particular passion of mine, and I find great joy in both playing and spectating the sport. Additionally, I have a keen interest in keeping up with advancements in technology, as it aligns with my vision of integrating technology into the legal framework. Exploring the latest technological developments allows me to stay informed and open to innovative approaches within the legal field.

As a parting note, could you recommend a book that has left a lasting impression on you? What is the most recent book you have read?

One book that has profoundly impacted me is “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. This classic novel tells the story of a young girl's coming-of-age journey in the South during the 1930s and explores themes of racism, morality, and compassion. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of standing up against injustice and fighting for what is right, even in the face of adversity. “To Kill a Mockingbird” left an indelible mark on my perspective, inspiring me to work towards a more just and inclusive world. As for my most recent read, I thoroughly enjoyed "Educated" by Tara Westover, a memoir that explores the transformative power of education and the resilience of the human spirit.
