Delhi HC Prohibits Furniture Store From Using IKEA Trademark
The court, noting the well-known status of the 'IKEA' mark owned by the Swedish company, granted an ex-parte ad-interim injunction in favor of Ikea, restraining the defendant from using the mark or any deceptively similar name on their store-related materials
The Delhi High Court has interdicted the Kerala-based furniture store "Ikea Luxury Furniture" from utilising the "Ikea" mark, whether as a trademark or trade name, on various mediums such as hoardings, stationery, banners, handbills, and promotional materials.
This decision stems from a trademark infringement case filed by Inter IKEA Systems BV, asserting its rights over the 'IKEA' mark.
The court, noting the well-known status of the 'IKEA' mark owned by the Swedish company, granted an ex-parte ad-interim injunction in favor of Ikea, restraining the defendant from using the mark or any deceptively similar name on their store-related materials.
Justice Pratibha M Singh mentioned that Ikea has the freedom to request JustDial to remove the page of the Defendant named 'IKEA Luxury Furniture.'
