Delhi HC Asks Delhi Government To Consider Draft Advocates Protection Bill
The consideration of the bill comes from the issues of regular violence against the Advocates in the several courts of Delhi and if the Act is passed, the protection can be guaranteed to the practicing lawyers from the various dangerous acts like firing and physical abuse
The Delhi Government has been directed by the Delhi High Court to consider the draft Advocates Protection Bill that the Coordination Committee of All District Courts Bar Associations has presented and to hold a stakeholder consultation on the same. Justice Pratibha M Singh order for the furnishing of a report after taking into consideration the draft bill.
Advocate Deepa Joseph and Alpha Phiris Dayal .had filed for the plea for the enactment of the Advocates Act for the NCT and Justice Pratibha M Singh passed the order in relation to the same. The stakeholder consultation has been also been deemed to be an important part of the process. The Counsel for the Bar Council of Delhi informed that the Coordination Committee has prepared a draft and sent to the Delhi Government. It would be taken up next on the 6th of September.
