Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act 2016 Amended: Senior Advocate Ranjit Kumar Informs SC

Senior Advocate Ranjit Prasad appearing for the state Bihar assured the Supreme Court that the Act under contention has been amended with effect from April 1.

The Supreme Court was on Tuesday informed that "extensive amendments" have been made to the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act 2016, which was enacted to ban the manufacture, trade, storage, transportation, sale, and consumption of liquor in the state.

The Supreme Court was hearing a slew of petitions questioning the constitutional validity of the said Act.

Senior Advocate Ranjit Prasad appearing for the state Bihar assured the Supreme Court that the Act under contention has been amended with effect from April 1.

The matter has been posted for hearing on April 18.
