The Supreme Court bench comprising Justices MR Shah and CT Ravikumar were looking at the issue where there was a lawyer’s strike in Rajasthan recently that was conducted after a lawyer was murdered. The bench was hearing the case of District Bar Association Dehradun v. Ishwar Shandilya and Ors.

In the matter at hand the District Bar Association of Dehradun was aggrieved by the order of the High Court which had said that the lawyer's strikes are illegal. Resultantly they approached the Supreme court after which a suo motu action of the apex court came about as they dismissed the said appeal. The court said that even though there are decisions of the court, the lawyers go on strikes and abstain from work. The court then called for suggestions from the Bar Council of India as well as the State Bar Councils to tackle the issue.

Now in the recent hearing the Bar Council of India has agreed that it will suggest to the court the grievances which may be considered by the Grievance Redressal Committee.

The bench gave the following order-

“Shri Manan Kumar Mishra, learned Senior Advocate and Chairman, Bar Council of India, has stated at the Bar that the Bar Council of India will suggest the nature of the grievances, which may be considered by the Grievance Redressal committee, which may be constituted by the concerned High Courts.”
