'What Is ‘Contingent Worker’: Delhi HC Asks Twitter

“I don’t know what you want to do. If you want to [comply with the rules], do it whole-heartedly,” the court remarked.

The latest affidavit filed by Twitter in Delhi High Court got Justice Rekha Palli perplexed.

The affidavit labels RGO Vinay Prakash as a ‘contingent worker’ appointed through a third party contractor.

Although Senior advocate Sajan Poovayya, representing Twitter assured the Court that Prakash had undertaken to perform all the functions and responsibilities under the IT Rules, Justice Rekha Palli has directed Twitter to file a fresh affidavit to explain the term ‘contingent worker’ and disclose details of the third party contractor.

“I don’t know what you want to do. If you want to [comply with the rules], do it whole-heartedly,” the court remarked.

Just when the dust on the matter seemed to have settled, Twitter classifying it's GRO as a ‘contingent worker’ has cast a shadow over Twitter's compliance with the IT Rules.

The next hearing in this matter is slated on August 6.
