The Supreme Court on August 5, Friday, allowed prayer for protection from arrest to Zee News Editor Rajnish Ahuja in a case relating to a doctored video of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Gandhi had remarked about the Students’ Federation of India for attacking his Wayanad office on June 24 in the original video. Gandhi called the attackers as children and stated that he held nothing against them.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh had alleged that the clip was doctored to portray as if Gandhi commented about the murderers of a tailor in Udaipur.

The news channel had broadcast the doctored video but later retracted it and gave an apology.

On Friday, a bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud ordered the court registry to tag the matter along with a similar case filed by Zee Hindustan anchor Rohit Ranjan.

On July 8, the Supreme Court had directed authorities not to take any coercive action against Ranjan in connection with the case.
