Karnataka HC Questions State Government On Action Taken Against Police Officers Who Leaked Investigation Details To Media

The case pertains to a plea seeking seeking directions to frame statutory rules to prevent publication of indecent and obscene content as part of a news item in electronic and print media.

On Tuesday, the State Government was questioned by the Karnataka High Court about the action taken against the police officers who disclosed investigation information by their choice to the media before the submission of the final report. 

The Court also sought details of any action taken against the Police officer who indulged in such activities.

The case pertains to a plea seeking seeking directions to frame statutory rules to prevent publication of indecent and obscene content as part of a news item in electronic and print media. 

During the hearing, the Court pointed out to a June 15 order which directed the State Government to ensure that the police officers do not divulge details regarding the investigation of cases, accused or the victim to media till the conclusion of such investigation.

Responding on the June 27 circular, the Counsel representing the State Government made the following remark. He has further sought time for two weeks to act as per the previous order issued by the High Court.

“it is not like everyone (Police officers) go to media and briefs them”.  

The matter is now slated for 12th August.
