Jharkhand HC initiates investigation
CJI NV Ramana has reportedly had a word with the Chief Justice, Secretary General and the Registrar General of the Jharkhand High Court. The Jharkhand High Court initiated an investigation into the matter, the CJI said. As per latest report, the case is under investigation and Jharkhand HC has issued a notice to Jharkhand Police in the matter.
CCTV footage points to foul play
As per reports, the retrieved CCTV footage shows the Judge being hit by a auto rikshaw while he was out on a morning walk in Dhanbad. A person was seen zooming the visuals as if to ascertain if the judge had died or not. This gives enough room to suspect a foul play. Justice Uttam Anand was hearing cases involving bail applications of gangsters. His death is seen as an attack on the independent judicial system.
Singh wants CBI Probe
Earlier today, Singh had implored the Justice DY Chandrachud Bench to take sou moto cognizance of the matter. Singh wants the matter to go before CBI for investigation as he believes the local police is usually complicit in the matter.
