BJP Leader Ashwini Upadhyay Withdraws His PIL Before Delhi HC Against Forceful Religious Conversion

The Supreme Court has asked the central government to file an affidavit in a similar PIL filed by Ashwini Upadhyay.

BJP Leader and Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay on Monday withdrew his PIL before the Delhi High Court on the aspect of forceful religious conversions.

Upadhyay's decision to withdraw his petition was due to the fact that he has filed a similar petition before the Supreme Court which is under consideration.

The top court has so far directed the central government to file a counter affidavit in the matter as per reports.

The plea filed by Upadhyay has claimed that the menace of religious conversions is prevalent in every nook and corner of the country. In his plea before the Supreme Court Upadhyay seeks a law commission report on the issue of forceful religious conversions and a nationwide law to prohibit such practice against the fundamental rights of the citizens.

The matter will come up for hearing on November 28, 2022.
